COURSES

Distance learning class formats

If your schedule or work makes it difficult for you to attend a regular class at a college campus, then classes offered at a distance may be just be the answer. Distance courses are not for everyone because they require self-motivation and the ability to work independently. You can see if you are suited for distance education classes by clicking here in order to take a quick self test.

Here are the different ways you can take a class through distance education.

Correspondence Courses take advantage of the mail or faxes to exchange materials between the students and the instructor.

Independent Study Programs are delivered either online or through correspondence and they allow students to complete course requirements at their own pace rather than by a term-by-term basis.

Live Interaction Courses are telecast directly to campuses in smaller communities from the main community college campus. Students participate in the classes at the remote locations at the same time students are participating at a larger campus.

Online Courses are delivered via the World Wide Web (WWW). Students need to have access to a computer, the Internet and Web browsing software such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Netscape Navigator in order to view course materials and to exchange materials with other students and the instructor.

Telecourses combine a series of television programs with interaction with a faculty member in the form of lectures and/or consultation. Students follow printed materials for the course and view the related programs on local cable stations. In some cases videotapes are available to view at the community colleges or for loan.

Videotaped Courses are those that are created on the college campus for distribution to outlying campuses. In some cases videotapes can be mailed directly to students for use in their home.
