DEGREES / CERTIFICATES by distance learning

If you are seeking a two-year degree, time and location shouldn't hold you back. Some of Oregon's community colleges now offer two-year, associate's degrees through distance learning. That means you can get your degree with little or no time spent at a traditional campus location. We have the degrees to help you get ahead and that allow you to stay right where you are to do it.

Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer Degree

With an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer (AAOT) degree you can complete your first two years of college and meet the lower-division general-education requirements for Oregon's public universities. Completing the AAOT degree simplifies the transfer process for community college students. The classes you take for the degree fulfill the general requirements, but not necessarily specific department or major requirements with regard to courses.

You can get your AAOT degree entirely through distance learning at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Lane Community College in Eugene, or Portland Community College in Portland.

Associate of Applied Science Degree

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree focuses on preparing you for a career in a professional-technical field. Chemeketa Community College offers AAS degrees in fire protection and in Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Southwestern Oregon Community College offers a degree in Childhood Education & Family Studies.

The Fire Protection program offers career training in Fire Suppression and Fire Prevention. Both options include training and education for those wanting to enter the career field and for those already employed. Chemeketa has a well-equipped fire station and training center on the Salem campus. Course work is accredited by the Oregon Board on Public Safety Standards and Training and by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress.

Fire Protection Technology - Fire Prevention

The Hospitality and Tourism Management curriculum focuses on the management aspects of today's exciting hospitality industry: food and beverage; travel and tourism; lodging, recreation and leisure;meeting and convention management; and casino management. Upon graduation you may enter the hospitality industry working in such areas as travel and tourism organizations, hotel operations, restaurant management, convention and visitor associations, recreation resource management, and casinos. The following degree is offered through Chemeketa Community College.

Hospitality & Tourism Management AAS

The Childhood Education & Family Studies degree prepares students to work in a variety of educational and childcare settings including Head Start, preschools, childcare, private kindergarten and as a para-professional in the public schools. The following degree is offered through Southwestern Oregon Community College.

The Associate of Science degree, with an emphasis in Childhood Education and Family Studies leads to the Baccalaureate degree in Human Development or Early Childhood Education. This degree is offered through Southwestern Oregon Community College.

Associate of General Studies Degree

The Associate of General Studies (AGS) degree combines some of the elements of the Associate of Transfer degree with the specific professional-technical courses you would take in an Associate of Science degree program. The degree allows you to take a broad core of basic courses and add in specific professional-technical courses to help you meet your professional goals. Chemeketa Community College offers an AGS degree through distance education.

Certificates

A certificate gives you specific professional-technical skills over a short period of time, usually within about a year. Three community college certificate programs can be completed via distance education. Portland Community College offers a Certificate in Management and Supervisory Development, Chemeketa Community College offers Certificates in Business Software and in Computer-Assisted Drafting (CAD), and Southwestern Oregon Community College offers certificates in Certificate Childhood Education & Family Studies, and in Web Production Specialist.

Certificate in Business Software - Chemeketa

The one-year core curriculum and electives prepare you as an entry-level office support specialist. You may earn a Business Technology Certificate of Completion by successfully completing the credit hours required.

Computer-Assisted Drafting (CAD) - Chemeketa

The CAD Certificate program is for students seeking a basic working knowledge of CAD systems. Full-time students can complete the program in three terms, although full-time enrollment is not required. All required courses are available online to provide maximum flexibility to non-traditional and working students.

Certificate in Management and Supervisory Development - Portland

Graduates from the Management and Supervisory Development program should be able to:
Lead themselves and a group through continuous change, and communicate a full range of thoughts and emotions with confidence and skill.

1 year Certificate Childhood Education & Family Studies - Southwestern

This program prepares students for careers as childcare workers, nursery school attendants, nursery school teacher aides, and childcare assistants.

Web Production Specialist Certificate - Southwestern

The Web Production Specialist Certificate of Completion is intended to prepare students for an entry-level job in web site production. The web production specialist is able to design, implement, and maintain web sites using web editors, HTML, and other contemporary software, interface with users, provide customer support, and have an appreciation for the importance of web presence for the company.
